A local councillor has welcomed huge safety improvements at Lough Egish Cross. Cllr Sean Gilliland expressed his delight at the most recent sitting of the Ballybay-Clones MD that the Cross had been realigned with ramps and other traffic control measures. Apart from safety enhancements, Cllr Gilliland also praised works which have taken place in relation to the appearance of the entrance of the Lough Egish Food Park.
The local representative said works have gave the area a "facelift" when coming into the biggest rural food city in Ireland. According to Cllr Gilliland, the food park which consists of a small cluster of factories employs around 1,000 people and it was "well worthy" that the crossroads and identity was brought up. With works near completion, Cllr Gilliland revealed that a brand new Tidy Towns committee has been set up in the area with volunteers who have a "huge interest" in looking after the area:
