The cost of salt bins for community centres, schools and residents’ associations in Co Monaghan will be waived by the local authority.
Cllr Colm Carthy said he has received assurances by Monaghan County Council that salt bins and the first fill of salt to such groups will be at no cost.
In early 2023, Cllr Carthy raised major concerns about some housing estates and schools not being gritted during a spell of frost that lasted a number of days similar to over the recent period.
As a result, the executive of Monaghan County Council agreed to waive the cost of a salt bin and first fill of salt usually €170 for community centres, schools and residents’ associations.
At a recent meeting of Monaghan County Council Cllr Carthy received assurances that the fee would still be waived for groups that are volunteer/community led (including schools).
