A local councillor says soaring rents in the capital are forcing key workers like Gardai and teachers out of their profession.
Monaghan Councillor Seamus Treanor says the housing crisis is putting the future of these priority workers were they are needed at risk.
Cllr Treanor says a system similar to the London supplementary allowance would give people in these professions a more level playing field.
The Monaghan Town man has a daughter that's a teacher in the UK and he says there is a €9,000 payment available to off-set the costs against housing while working in London as a key worker like a police officer or a teacher.
The Independent councillor said he is very concerned over how the government has been dealing with immigration, adding that he believes this issue is having a knock on effect on the housing market.
