A Monaghan Senator has backed calls for increased supports for those suffering from heart disease.
Cardiovascular disease, according to the Irish Foundation, is the cause of around 10,000 deaths a year in Ireland. It affects 2% of the general population, rising to 10% for those over the age of 70. Monaghan Senator Robbie Gallagher has backed calls from the Irish Heart Foundation for improved diagnostic, financial, and community care supports to manage the disease.
Speaking in the Seanad earlier, Senator Gallagher says as the population grows, the incidence of the disease will grow with it, and supports should increase to reflect that.
