Farmers who are farming some of the poorest land in the country are receiving thousands of euro less in CAP payments than their Dublin counterparts.
That's according to local Aontú Senator, Sarah O'Reilly.
The local representative believes that the latest statistics on CAP payments reveal a "shocking and unacceptable disparity which lays bare the government's real commitment to rural Ireland for once and for all".
Cavan and Monaghan farmers are receiving €14,500 and €12,500 respectively while those in Dublin are receiving an average CAP payment of €25,500 per year.
Senator O'Reilly says this is an absolutely huge gap and points to a need for radical overhaul of agricultural policy to support local farmers.
She says the scheme itself needs to be overhauled and allow farmers to be farmers.
