A Co. Cavan senator believes that the government has "spun itself an awful web of bureaucracy" in relation to flood relief schemes.
Aontú senator, Sarah O'Reilly believes that the lack of progress on the Cavan Flood Relief Scheme is "laughable".
According to Senator O'Reilly, the level of flooding in Cavan and Monaghan is both sad, and easily preventable.
She told the Seanad last week (Thursday, January 29th) that the scheme was introduced in 2018, and eight years on there has been "no real deliveries on it".
Senator O'Reilly described the situation is "ridiculous".
The senator said that people in Cavan and Monaghan want to know why funding has been cut.
She said: "I just think its laughable, the lack of progress on the Cavan Flood Relief Scheme. Eight years on, and the scheme remains at the development stage.
"Eight years of funding, just to get to the stage where they can begin to review flood relief measures, the government has spun itself an awful web of bureaucracy," Senator O'Reilly.
