After 166 years of presence and ministry in Monaghan, the Sisters of St Louis are closing their Motherhouse Convent.
To mark this occasion, a number of events will take place today.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. an open day and exhibition of 'The Story of the St Louis Sisters in Monaghan' will take place at St Louis Secondary School.
Following that, a mass of thanksgiving will take place take place in St Macartan's Cathedral at 3 p.m.
This is followed by a gathering and light refreshments at the Hillgrove Hotel from 4:15 p.m. onward.
Margaret Conlon is the Principal of St Louis Secondary School in Monaghan Town.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Mrs Conlon says students will be "front and centre" of the mass in St Macartan's Cathedral, offering their appreciation to the hard work and dedication of the sisters down through the years.
In addition to this, 'The Story of the St Louis Sisters in Monaghan' exhibition will be on display at Monaghan County Museum from Tuesday the 4th of March.
Former curator of Cavan County Museum Savina Donohoe has been involved in the exhibition and says it's been a huge undertaking by a number of sisters in Monaghan to be able to showcase this exhibition.
