A talented apprentice from Monaghan is celebrating after being named one of the top ten finalists in this year's Screwfix Trade Apprentice competition.
Emma Scott, aged 23, who is currently studying carpentry and joinery at Dublin College Dun Laoghaire, fought off strong competition from more than 3,000 applicants from across the UK and Ireland to secure a coveted place in the national final and the chance to take home a career-boosting prize bundle of tools, training and technology worth €10,000.
Since starting her journey in carpentry and joinery, Emma aims to inspire girls to enter the trade and hopes to establish her own business while mentoring apprentices.
Her inspiration began during a school trip to a cabinet factory, and years later, she now works there.
Currently, Emma is rebuilding her own home and enjoys making custom dog beds and children's chairs.
In the future, she would like to explore roofing.
Speaking about reaching the final, Emma said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to have made it to the final of this year's Screwfix Trade Apprentice competition.
"When I first applied, I never dreamed I'd get this far - it's an incredible feeling. This journey has been all about pushing myself, growing as a carpenter and joiner, and striving to be the best I can be.
"To have my hard work and passion recognised on a national stage is truly amazing, and I can't wait to see what's next."
The two-day final will take place at Google HQ in London on from Wednesday the 29th of April until Thursday the 30th of April.
The top ten will take part in workshops, networking sessions and a face-to-face interview with an expert judging panel.
