There have been calls for renewed impetus for the development of enterprise centres across the Northern Sound region.
Fianna Fáil TD, Brendan Smith made the call in the Dáil this week, for adequate financial supports to allow local authorities to develop the centres.
A feasibility assessment on developing small and medium enterprise (SME) workspace hubs was carried out by Cavan and Monaghan County Councils.
This was carried out in partnership with local authorities in Northern Ireland, supported through the Shared Island Development Funding.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith noted the "substantial" funding that Monaghan and Cavan County Councils have allocated into the development of business parks.
He believes that technological advancements bring opportunities to bring more job opportunities to the area.
Deputy Smith said: "With technology nowadays there are greater opportunities to do more work in our rural areas than there would have been in the past.
"We have to try and reduce the burden on people travelling to Dublin, make sure there are more job opportunities locally.
"In so many instances we know of people who through their existing employment can bring opportunities from existing employment to create new employment to areas such as Cavan and Monaghan," Deputy Smith added.
