The HSE has informed a local TD that additional endoscopy procedure lists will be introduced at weekends.
Deputy Brendan Smith believes that this will expand the overall service capacity in Monaghan and Cavan Hospital.
He raised the issue with the Minister for Health in relation to endoscopy capacity, in view of delays in patients getting procedures.
The local TD has since been informed that there are plans to reduce waiting times for procedures.
Endoscopy services are currently delivered Monday to Friday across both hospital sites.
To increase capacity and reduce waiting times, Cavan and Monaghan Hospitals have secured additional support through the HSE's nationally funded Access to Care initiative.
This funding will facilitate the introduction of additional endoscopy procedure lists at weekends, thereby expanding overall service capacity.
