Legal action has been launched against the Irish State over its alleged failure to carry out an "effective investigation" into the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings.
The Irish Times are reporting that letters were sent to the Attorney General's Office, the Minister for Justice, and the Garda Commissioner on Monday by a solicitor acting on behalf of some of the bereaved families impacted by the atrocity.
The paper has reported that Operation Denton, which is part of the Kenova report, found a "poor investigative response" in the original Garda investigation into the bombings.
Local TD, Brendan Smith said that the case should go through the courts process.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he said that search for the truth should be relentless.
Deputy Smith said: "Obviously if goes through the courts, it goes through the courts process. But for many years, I and others, have highlighted the need that full comprehensive investigations into a number of atrocities that took place across this island, especially into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.
"We need to get the truth established into who carried out those atrocities, who carried out those murders, who was responsible for causing so much grief and sorrow, for so many families, and caused so many suffering for innocent people.
"If there was wrong doing on the part of individuals, or if there was wrong doing on behalf of the British state forces, or if there was wrong doing on behalf of the Irish state- I have no evidence whatsoever of wrongdoing on this state- but I have to say, if there was, the pursuit of the truth should be relentless.
