There's an epidemic out there surrounding the theft of 4x4s.
That's according to Meath County Councillor, Paddy Meade.
He says the issue is a major concern across the North East especially in Cavan and South Monaghan. Cllr Meade says we need to catch the people that are doing this and we need to put an end to it.
His comments come as Rusty the dog was located over the weekend, the collie dog had been stolen while inside a jeep in Kingscourt.
Two jeeps were stolen while the owners attended the mart in Kingscourt between 11.30am and 2pm last Thursday. The first jeep is described as a Blue Toyota Hilux with a registration number 181MN 2033. The second is a Grey Toyota Landcruiser, registration 211 LD 15.
Cllr Meade believes there's only a number of gangs out there, organized gangs that are doing this and he says the Gardai need more resources. The Fine Gael councillor says the dogs on the street know where these Jeeps are going, adding that this has been a blight on rural Ireland for far too long and it needs to stop.
