The €4 daily transport charge for people with disabilities attending day services in Cavan, Monaghan, Sligo, and Donegal is set to be removed.
The HSE has allocated €250,000 for the remainder of 2025, with an additional €500,000 secured from 2026 to permanently cover the cost.
Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley confirmed the funding will be used to eliminate the charge and make essential transport services more affordable and accessible across the Northwest and Midwest.
Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Brendan Smith, welcomed the decision, calling it a major step forward for equality and fairness in the region.
Meanwhile, Monaghan Senator Robbie Gallagher also expressed his support, calling it a win for people with additional needs.
