Minister Niamh Smyth has paid tribute former Fianna Fail councillor and community stalwart Brendan Hughes who died today.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Minister Smyth said: "Brendan sat on Monaghan County Council for many years and was an incredibly generous man who was heavily invested in his local community of Castleblayney. He was a man who had a word for everyone and whose finger tips can bee seen all over Castleblayney and the rural areas surrounding it following the hard work he put in over many years representing the people of that area on Monaghan County Council."
