Tributes are being paid to popular Scotshouse man John Connolly who passed away yesterday following a short illness.
The Co Monaghan man had been a lifelong community man in the area and had been heavily involved in the world of GAA throughout his life.
John was also a Fianna Fáil candidate in the most recent local elections last June. Ronan Gargan has more. One tribute posted online today described John as an absolute gentleman who always had time to stop and chat with everyone.
There has been a sense of deep and profound sadness in the locality following John's untimely passing. He also was the voice of people in the area last year when Eir had erected a mast in the village of Scotshouse, a mere 12 feet away from a child’s bedroom. John along with other residents protested against that decision which in turn saw Eir changing the location of the mast seeing ‘people power’ winning out.
Fianna Fail Senator Robbie Gallagher says the area is numb following John's untimely passing. As a mark of respect on the passing of Monaghan GAA Assistant Secretary, John Connolly all activities at Volumetric Building Companies Europe, Monaghan GAA Centre of Excellence, Cloghan will be suspended today.
John's local club, Currin GAA said that his passion, commitment, and kindness left a lasting mark on our club and community.
In a statement from Monaghan GAA, they said John devoted his life to the GAA, and his impact on the GAA and everyone who knew him will never be forgotten. John’s passion and dedication to football touched so many lives, and his legacy will continue to inspire us all. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
