Tributes pouring in for Cavan restaurant proprietor

His smile and spirit never wavered, and his wit and humour were truly unmatched. 

Tributes are pouring in online following the death of popular Cavan restaurant proprietor Gearóid Lynch.

Along with his wife Tara, they have been at the helm of The Olde Post Inn in Cloverhill for many many years.

In an online post last night the restaurant said with the strength of Tara by his side, Gearóid faced the past number of years with remarkable courage, and dignity.

His legacy will live on through his beautiful children, Oran, Lorcan, Emma, and Eoin.

His smile and spirit never wavered, and his wit and humour were truly unmatched.

Even when faced with the most difficult diagnosis, he continued to show up for others with generosity and kindness.

In 2000 Gearóid won the Euro Toques Baileys Young Chef of the Year. He held the position of Commissioner General of Euro Toques Ireland for a two year term and he was also appointed as a Food Champion for Failte Ireland.

The chef who worked in top restaurants in Ireland, London and Luxembourg when he was starting out also guested many many times on Northern Sound throughout the years sharing his love for food with others.

Some other tributes paid online said he was a gent to the tips of his fingers.

Another described his as someone with incredible talent and passion, a gent full of fun.
