Two brothers from Co Cavan have taken top honours at this year's Ireland's Young Filmmaker of the Year Awards 2026.
18- year-old Liam Raymond who attends 'Coláiste Dún an Rí', Kingscourt was named Ireland's Young Filmmaker of the Year 2026, winning first place overall at the awards ceremony held at the Mansion House in Dublin this afternoon.
Yesterday, his 12-year-old brother Fionn Barra Raymond who is in 6th class in Laragh 2 Muff National School was awarded Ireland's Junior Young Filmmaker of the Year for his film The Battle of Time, completing a notable double success for the family.
Liam won the overall award for his film Deep Where The Cailleach Lives, selected from more than 1,500 entries from across Ireland. The film tells the story of a young boy who must face a series of trials set by a powerful figure from Irish mythology in order to save his dying mother. Drawing on Irish folklore, Liam developed the project while completing his Leaving Certificate, with a central performance from his younger brother, Fionn Barra.
In addition to taking first place, the film also received the Screen Producers Ireland Most Sustainable Award, recognising its environmentally conscious production approach.
This year's ceremony brought together more than 300 young filmmakers aged between 12 and 18, along with teachers, families and industry supporters, with 17 awards presented on the day.
