Around 900,000 trips were made to the Northern Sound region by those on domestic travel last year.
Figures from the CSO also show the average length of stay in Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan, and Louth was 2 days. The figures show that over the 12 months of 2024, the region had 900,000 domestic visitors. Cavan and Leitrim figures were amalgamated, with 418,000 trips made to the region over last year. Monaghan and Louth figures were also logged together, with 482,000 trips made last year. This resulted in a total of 945,000 bed nights used in Cavan and Leitrim, and 926,000 in Monaghan and Louth.
In total across the country Irish residents spent a total of 36.7 million nights on domestic trips in 2024, an 8.2% increase compared with the previous year.
