The TV documentary about Monaghan's own Daire Gorman is in line for an award voted for by members of the public. "What Daire Did Next", which was aired on RTÉ in December, followed a whirlwind six months in the life of 13-year-old Daire who comes from Tonniscoffey.
In 2024, a video of Daire becoming emotional as he sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" at Anfield went viral leading to him getting an invitation to meet his Liverpool heroes Moh Salah and Jurgen Klopp. This dream come true was followed by another as he met the Ireland Rugby team and then he competed in a wheelchair soccer tournament in Paris.
Daire, is one of only seven people in the world with Crommelin Syndrome, a rare condition that affects his upper limbs and bones. Filmed over six months, RTÉ says What Daire Did Next "captures Daire’s incredible spirit and explores his challenging medical journey." Now, the programme is up for a Royal Television Society Award.
And, there's still time for the good viewers of the Northern Sound region to vote in this category until 11pm tonight.
