A Met Eireann weather warning will continue across Cavan and Monaghan until 9am this morning.
Plummeting temperatures has resulted in dangerous road conditions in parts of the Northern Sound region.
Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo and Mayo are subject to a yellow alert for snow and ice until the same time.
A similar alert has been issued by the UK Met Office for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.
Met Eireann is warning people to expect sharp frost and icy stretches as well as black ice.
