Met Éireann has changed its weather warnings, as the risk of thunderstorms has fallen.
It now has a Status Yellow rain warning in place for Cavan and Monaghan, along with Donegal, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo.
The possible impacts in the Northern Sound region include localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
The warning is expected to stay in place until 9pm.
A similar warning is in place in Leinster and Waterford until 6pm, and in Northern Ireland until 9pm.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show, Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel said this is not unusual for this time of year.
"When we get our winds originating from a south-easterly source and we see this type of a pressure pattern, it's quite normal at times to see these areas of instability have been generated and pushing up from the Bay of Biscay, so it's certainly not out of the ordinary. This particular event, not a particularly strong event, so the heat, the energy that's needed to produce really quite disruptive thunderstorms, they're not quite there. We would have expected to see temperatures if you were looking at a type of situation like that to be a good four or five degrees higher than they are at the moment, so it's something to be aware of but certainly nothing to be concerned about."
