Domestic abuse at 'epidemic levels' says local councillor. Further to the White Ribbon event held in Monaghan town at the start of October. Additionally, coinciding with the Women's Safety Audit events throughout the county in October. Cllr Sinéad Flynn has proposed that Monaghan County Council write to the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee and the Taoiseach Simon Harris. A letter insisting that the government adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards domestic, sexual and gender-based abuse and violence. Indeed, Sinn Fein's Sinead Flynn raised the issue at this week's sitting of Monaghan County Council. Cllr Cathy Bennett seconded the the motion.

Jodie Curran spoke with Cllr Flynn and began by asking why it was important for her to bring the matter of the domestic abuse epidemic to the fore:
