A local councillor is seeking clarity surrounding the sale of vapes to under 18s.
Cllr Brendan Fay brought a motion to this week's sitting of Cavan County Council. Indeed, the motion calls on the local authority to make contact with the Justice Minister and the Garda Commissioner on the issue.
Moreover, he believes enforcement of the legislation, enacted last year, is lacking. The legislation bans the sale of vapes to under 18s.
Furthermore, Ireland's new legislation, being drafted for the Nicotine Inhaling Products Bill, proposes banning the sale, manufacture, or import of single-use or disposable vapes.
The new legislation also limits the number of vape flavours. There will also be provision for amendments to the list of allowed flavours, pending new evidence. The Belturbet Councillor believes these flavors target younger people. Additionally, he strongly believes that vapes act as a gateway to harder drugs. Cllr Fay has been speaking to Ronan Gargan who says it's evident that kids are still able to purchase vapes locally and something needs to be done and done now.
