Dermot McCabe claimed his first win as Cavan scored a three point win over Kildare.
Paddy Lynch opened the scoring when he put Cavan ahead with a point after nine minutes. Darragh Kirwan replied for Kildare. However, Paddy Lynch was on target again this time with the opening two-pointer of the contest.
Points from Callume Bolton and Darragh Kirwan levelled the game, with 22 minutes played it was three points apiece.
Tiernan Madden and Brian McLoughlin traded scores for either side, as Cavan struggled in the face of the harsh elements, dropping six shots short inside the opening 30 minutes.
Gerry Smith put Cavan ahead just before the break with Colin Moran drawing the sides level on the buzzer in Kingspan Breffni Park.
At half-time the sides were tied on five points apiece. Kildare took the lead for the first time just after the break with points from James Harris and Ben Loakman.
Lynch powers Cavan forward
A Paddy Lynch two-pointer on 40 minutes drew Cavan level before Oisin Brady put them back into the lead when he flashed a shot over the Kildare crossbar.
Dara McVeety, Gearoid McKiernan and Paddy Lynch all kicked scores for Cavan as they moved into a five point lead on 54 minutes.
Kildare brought a thirteen minutes scoring drought to an end when Ben Loakman scored two points inside a minute, recuing the Cavan lead back to three.
After 61 minutes Cavan led 0-14 to 0-11. Ben Loakman was on target again before a James Harris made it a two point ball game on 68 minutes.
Paddy Lynch had the final say of the contest as he slotted over a free as the hooter sounded.
Cavan running out three point winners securing their first league win of the campaign, 16 points to 13.
