Gowna kicked off their Kyle Powertech Cavan SFC campaign with a comfortable victory over Ballinagh in Kingspan Breffni.
Cian and Daire Madden got the first two scores of the day for Gowna before Ballinagh got themselves level through Paddy O’Brien and Kevin Smith.
Ballinagh took the lead for the first time in the game as Smith converted a two-pointer from a free-kick.
However, it did not take Gowna long to reclaim the lead before extending said lead with a goal from Oisin Pierson at the 20 minute mark.
Gowna hit a flurry of successive wides before Ballinagh pulled a score back. However, the Gowna nerves were settled by a second goal through Cian Madden. Extending their lead to seven points as the half time interval approached.
Gowna made a couple of personnel changes at the start of the second-half; and recorded the first score of the second-period through that man Cian Madden once again.
Fionnan Brady and Conor Madden opened up a nine point gap to leave Ballinagh with a huge ask.
Daire and Cian Madden found themselves on the scoresheet once more, Cian with the two-pointer, Shane Finnegan finally broke the Ballinagh duck mid-way through the second half.
However, Gowna did not slow up with Conor Madden recording another two-pointer for them before Ronan Connelly buried a pair of consolation goals for Ballinagh.
It was in vein however as Gowna start their championship campaign in the best possible way, with a comprehensive victory.
Gowna scoring victory 2-22 to 2-9.
