Monaghan claimed an All-Ireland quarter-final after a brilliant win over Down.
The farney men winning out 2-27 to 1-26 to claim top spot in group three in an end-to-end cracker.
Micheál Bannigan's goal on the half-hour mark saw Monaghan drawing level at 1-12 apiece. John McGeough having found the Monaghan on 10 minutes.
Down led 1-15 to 1-14 at half-time and moved four clear early in the second-half. However, Monaghan turned the game on its head as Jack McCarron’s 50th minute goal ignited the farney restart.
A McCarron two-pointer levelled the tie and the scores of Bannigan, Ryan O’Toole and Rory Beggan (two-point free) helped Monaghan to win out by four points and clinch top spot in Group 3.
The win means Monaghan advance to the quarter-final stage and will play a winner of the preliminary quarter-final round on the weekend of 29 June.
Down take second place and will have a home preliminary quarter-final.
