Monaghan fell to a five point defeat against Longford at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Martin Farrell helped the hosts into an early three point lead. Deaglan Crowe and Niall Garland replied for the visitors. However, Killian Courtney and Evan Tully both found the Monaghan net soon after.
Longford were in a commanding 13 point lead at half-time.
David Buckley raised the green flag for Longford again on 43 minutes. Monaghan scored a flurry of unanswered points before Niall Garland scored Monaghan’s first goal of the contest.
John Treanor landed Monaghan’s second goal of the contest, followed quickly by a Deaglan Crowe point further reducing the deficit. Reuben Murray responded with a point for Longford helping see out the victory.
Longford winning out 3-15 to 2-13.
