Cavan fall to first league defeat of the year

Westmeath were three point winners in this afternoons clash with nothing but pride on the line in Kingspan Breffni.

The sides were positioned at opposite ends of the league table were evenly matched early on.

The two were tied at three points each before Katie Kilmurray got the opening goal of the contest for Westmeath. Westmeath held a seven point lead at half-time, 1-8 to 0-4.

Niamh McCorry landed Cavan’s first goal of the game after 50 minutes, leaving six between the sides, 1-10 to 1-4.

Rebecca McLoughlin hit three points in succession for Cavan before Aishling Sheridan got a second goal of the afternoon for the hosts on 58 minutes. Leaving three between the sides.

Westmeath held out for the victory over the hosts who had already secured promotion, running out three point winners, 1-15 to 2-9.
