Scotstown boss McCauge praises sides attitude

Scotstown claimed their 23rd county title

Scotstown boss David McCauge praised his players after they overcame Inniskeen to the Monaghan championship.

Scotstown needed extra-time to overcome Inniskeen, 22 points to 17 to claim the Mick Duffy Cup in Clones. A 23rd county title for the Scotstown men.

“I suppose we're very lucky, in that we've experienced this a few times” explained Scotstown boss David McCauge. “The most recent ones always are the one that's very special”.

“But I suppose this year was really challenging for us in terms of not having our full squad available to us all year. At times we looked vulnerable”.

“We drew our first game against Clontibret, didn't play well against Thruagh and were beaten in Corduff”.

“We had a lot of questions to answer along the way and that was really challenging for everyone in the group and thankfully we came up with the answers.

“The players came up with the answers and I'm just very fortunate as a manager” explained McCauge.

“The level of leadership, the fellas delivered today when it really mattered. McCauge went on “When they were given a huge challenge by a great Inneskeen team a team of huge respect”.

Next up for Scotstown is a trip into the Ulster championship and a meeting with Donegal champions Naomh Conaill on November ninth.

“What a privilege to be in that nine team competition” explained McCauge. “We've come through a 10 team competition in Monaghan it was a huge challenge in a fortnight's time.

“I saw a bit of the Donegal final on TG4” McCauge added. “They're a seasoned outfit too with a mixture of youth.

“It's a big challenge but look that's why we're in the game to meet those challenges and test ourselves against the best and that's what's coming down the tracks”.
