Scotstown responded in a strong fashion when Kieran Hughes fed Michael McCarville who buried the ball to the back of the Newbridge net after four minutes.

Newbridge struggled with the strong start from Scotstown got much needed lift when Patrick McMullen found the bottom left corner of the Scotstown net after 17 minutes.
Scotstown led by two, 1-5 to 1-3. The Monaghan hit three points without reply form Michael McCarville, Francis Maguire and Shane Carey. Scotstown, moved into a six point lead.
Oisin Doherty broke the Scotstown momentum when he fired over from play for Newbridge.
However, a pair of two-pointers from Rory Beggan and Michael McCarville sent Scotstown into the break, nine points added. At half-time Scotstown led 1-13 to 1-4.
Darren Hughes opened the scoring for the second half, pushing Scotstown into a 10-point advantage.
Newbridge replied with two-pointers from Conor McAteer and Oisin Doherty, who were now utilizing the strong breeze blowing at their back.
Newbridge fight back into contest
Tommy Mallon got the second goal of the evening for Scotstown after 42 minutes. Scotstown moving into eight point lead, 2-14 to 1-9.
Conlath McGrogan got a point from play for Newbridge, before Conor Doherty struck the ball past Rory Beggan in the Scotstown net, reducing the lead back to four points.
With six minutes remaining, Scotstown led, 2-16 to 2-12.
A two-pointer from Sean Young into injury time. That was followed-up with a Colm McAteer point the game was sent to extra-time.
Oisin Doherty and Rory Beggan traded two-pointers in the first period of extra-time as both teams sought to take control.
Jack McCarron and Colm McGrogan both kicked scores as the first period of extra-time came to an end. The sides to break still in a deadlock.
The second-half of extra-time was a low scoring affair with Jack McCarron firing over before Conor McAteer fisted over at the death to force penalties in the Athletic Grounds.
Rory Beggan, Jack McCarron and Kieran Hughes all converted their penalties as Conor Doherty blasted his ball over the bar while seen a penalty saved before Kieran Darren Hughes sealed the shootout win with his effort.
Scotstown now progress to face Down champions Kilcoo in the Ulster decider in two weeks.
