Sean McDermotts reach Ulster JFC quarter-finals after beating Cookstown

Sean McDermotts reached the Ulster JFC quarter-finals following a 3-8 to 1-6 victory over Cookstown Fr Rock’s at Clones today.

The Tyrone junior champions led 1-4 to 1-3 at half-time before a superior second half display say Sean McDermotts recorded an eight-point victory in the end.

Gary Larkin’s men made the brighter start and led 1-2 to 0-2 at the first water break with Adam O’Driscoll’s goal on two minutes separating the sides.

Barry Cotter restored parity with a penalty goal in first-half injury time before Matthew Carberry added a point three minutes later. Cookstown now led by the minimum margin at half-time.

Sean McDermotts were four points clear at the second water break after hitting 1-2 without reply during the third quarter. Adam O’Driscoll with their second goal from a penalty four minutes into the second half.

John Gilmore eventually opened Cookstown’s second-half account with four minutes left before Eamon McQuillan made it a seven-point game when he registered a goal one minute into injury time.

Sean McDermotts finished with eight points to spare at the final whistle and will play Belleek in the last eight of the Ulster championship.
