St. Cuan’s see off Bailieborough to claim All-Ireland Post Primary schools D football title.
It was a historic occasion in Abbotstown as the school from Cavan, Bailieborough Community School faced off St. Cuans Castleblakeney of Ballinasloe.
The Bailieborough team left themselves with a mountain to climb in the second-half, conceding two goals in the opening half.
However, they kept their own side of the scoreboard ticking over as they notched up seven points in the opening period to get back within four points going into the half-time interval.
It was a fast start to the second-half with the team from Cavan not giving up on the fight. Evan Markey converted a free-kick to get what was his fifth of the day at the time, before Luke Reilly’s massive score from the mark got them back within three.
A wonderful Mark Mulvey score got Bailieborough back within two before a third St. Cuan’s goal proved to be the final sucker punch, which gave the side from Ballinasloe the platform they needed to see the game out and claim the All-Ireland title.
St. Cuan’s landed the All-Ireland title out 3-9 and Bailieborough 12 points.
