Journalist claims rural Ireland isn’t as neglected as people believe

Rural communities must put pressure on the Government to invest, instead of “whinging” of neglect.

That’s according to former Political Editor with the Irish Times Stephen Collins, who said based on Census figures, rural villages and towns are not that different to urban areas. He said spending power, population and income in areas such as the Northern Sound region means the myth of rural Ireland declining isn’t all true.

Speaking on The Joe Finnegan Show, Stephen Collins agreed there is an imbalance, but said it doesn’t tell the whole story.
