Journalist says there is “mistrust” among farmers of beef-protest negotiators

After a weekend of negotiations, the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed announced that an agreement had been reached in the on-going beef crisis.

However, Pat O’Toole of the Irish Farmers Journal, told The Joe Finnegan Show that some farmers will reject the deal.

He said that there is a “mistrust” among protesting farmers of “everybody” involved in the negotiations, which “makes it hard to see all of them approving the deal”.

O’Toole also cited concerns about the base price of beef, which is lower than the base price in the UK and continental Europe.
