A judge says the delay in sentencing a man for pinning a Carrickmacross cyclist against a stop sign with his car is "most unsatisfactory".

29 year old James McDonagh of Maple Close, Dundalk had previously pleaded guilty to endangerment, with a guilty plea of dangerous driving added at the most recent sitting.

The incident arose after Mark Baldwin claimed 29 year old James McDonagh dangerously overtook him and his wife while they were cycling on the Old Ardee Road in Carrickmacross on September 3rd 2018.

The accused made a u-turn and drove at the cyclist after a confrontation over his driving behaviour, trapping him between the car and a road sign.

The case was due for sentencing today but had to be put back because of the addition of a charge and further information was required on previous convictions.

Judge John Aylmer said he had to agree to the adjournment but that he was "anxious to finalise" proceedings and it was "most unsatisfactory" to the victim that it was dragging on.

James McDonagh was remanded on continuing bail until the next Circuit Court sittings in June.
