LE19: Calls for candidate debate, more money needed for upkeep of roads and call for community facilities to be used for votes

Independent candidate in Monaghan MD Alvin McGlone is calling on his fellow candidates to take part in a public debate tomorrow night.

The ecosystem developer says the event would give locals the chance to question the candidates and see “who actually care about you and who does not”.

He wants the general public as well as the 16 other candidates in the Municipal District to attend.


Fine Gael’s John O’Hare says he wants to see more money allocated to the upkeep of Cavan’s roads.

O’Hare, who’s running in the Bailieborough-Cootehill area, says he will fight hard get more money for roads and local lanes if he’s elected.

He previously served as a Councillor from 2009-2014 and says the provision of broadband is another priority for him.


Fine Gael Candidate Winston Bennett has asked for community facilities to be used where possible as polling stations instead of local schoolos.

Bennett is running in the Ballyjamesduff area of Cavan has called for this change ahead of this months elections in order to avoid school closures.

It has been confirmed that this issue has been brought to the Registrar.
