LE19: Need for action at dangerous Carrick junctions, Virginia land should be used for job creation and more supports needed for volunteers

Aontú candidate James Duffy says the party wants to eradicate nightmarish conditions for young children in Carrickmacross.

He says children are being forced to cross roads in the town frequently, which have no markings, lights and footpaths in need of repair.

The Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD candidate says people have pleaded for works at the Shercock road roundabout in particular but nothing has been done, with children facing hazardous conditions daily.

Ballyjamesduff MD candidate TP Reilly says Council owned land in Virginia should be developed to allow for jobs to be created.

The Fine Gael candidate says the land, which is owned by the Council, could be used to create hundreds of jobs for the Virginia, while giving a boost to the economy.

He says the area is very lucky to have a large amount of land available, with 18,000 cars passing through Virginia every day.

Labour Party Candidate in the Bailieborough-Cootehill area Mary Roche says she wants to work to ensure that the Council provides improved supports for people who work for community organisations and voluntary groups.

She says many people give selflessly of themselves on behalf of groups with little or no recognition.

She says she’s seen that as part of her work with Cootehill Cancer Care Support Group and Cootehill Senior Citizens.
