A local insurance broker says fraudulent claims are the main reason behind the lack of insurance cover available for leisure facilities and businesses in the region.
Killinkere Visitor Farm closed at the end of May, despite engagement with four brokers in a bid to get cover as the costs were too high, as well as Club V in Virginia blaming rising costs for its closure last week.
Emma Gollogly of Golo insurance in Carrickmacross has said that insurance companies are often not willing to give quotes to businesses in the leisure sector due to the costs associated with fraudulent claims for their company. This has led to a number of businesses being forced to close as the owners cannot trade without such insurance.
