A battle has been won on the undergrounding of the North South Interconnector according to a local campaign group. Nigel Hillis was speaking after planning permission for the northern section of the cross-border project was revoked.
The Department of Infrastructure in Northern Ireland said last week that it has decided it is not in the public’s interest to continue defending the court proceedings. A legal challenge was brought by opposition, who argued the granting of planning permission for the construction of the project by a senior civil servant in the absence of a Stormont executive was unlawful.
However Eirgrid, which is promoting the project south of the border said the ruling had no bearing on its operations in the republic. Speaking to Northern Sound News, Nigel Hillis said opposition groups still have a lot of work to do.
