Local councillor criticises Eirgrid’s ‘draconian’ way of doing business

A local councillor has criticised Eirgrid’s draconian way of doing business in relation to the North South Interconnector.

Fianna Fail Councillor Sarah O’Reilly says that it’s farcical that after a botched planning application and hearing that raised many complaints about collusion between the two state bodies, An Bord Pleanala granted planning permission for the structure.

Eirgrid is planning on constructing hundreds of pylons across Cavan, Monaghan, Meath and Tyrone to connect the two electricity grids on the island.

Councillor O’Reilly says that over the course of 10 years, Eirgrid have inflicted financial, psychological and emotional anguish onto 25, 000 people who will feel the impact of the project.

She states that Eirgrid must accept that undergrounding is feasible and come up with a plan immediately.
