Local councillor hits out at roadworks on the Castleblayney bypass

A local councillor has hit out at roadworks on the Castleblayney bypass.

Fianna Fail councillor PJ O’Hanlon has criticised Monaghan County Council for deciding to undertake roadworks at busy times of the day recently.

Raising the issue at the most recent meeting of Carrickmacross-Castleblayney Municipal District, councillor O’Hanlon voiced his outrage that road maintenance works were not being carried out at quieter times.

On Friday the 23rd there were long delays on the N2 Castleblayney bypass as the road remained closed until 6pm, leading to journeys reportedly taking over half an hour from Clonavogy through the town.

In a statement, Monaghan County Council says it “endeavours to minimise the closures” by scheduling works at weekends and at night, or by only closing one lane of the busy route.
