Local Direct Provision centres will be "decommissioned" as part of the Government's plan to abolish the programme. Minister for Equality, Roderic O'Gorman, says

Local Direct Provision centres will be "decommissioned" as part of the Government's plan to abolish the programme.

Minister for Equality, Roderic O'Gorman, says the new arrangement will be fully operational by December 2024, that it's a step towards a 'fairer, more compassionate Ireland' and rooted in 'dignity, human rights and respect'.

Going forward, asylum-seekers will stay in a state-owned reception centre for a maximum of four months, before getting housed in the community.

St Patrick's Accomodation Centre is the only permanent centre in the region, with some hotels acting as Emergency Accomodation Centres.

The publication of the report has been welcomed by migrant and refugee rights organisations, particularly removing the involvement of private operators.

Fiona Finn, CEO of NASC says there is a roadmap for getting residents out of current locations.
