Local haulier fears business may suffer if there’s a return to border controls

A local haulier says a return to border controls and customs checks would have a big impact on the business locally.

It comes as Theresa May last week outlined some of the UK’s plan for Brexit, which included work to retain the Common Travel Area between the North and the Republic.

But here are concerns that the European Union could insist on a border on the island as it would become an EU border with a non-EU state.

There’s much discussion about whether or not customs checks will be reinstated, however a definite answer won’t be given until it’s discussed during the Brexit negotiations.
