Local representatives in Monaghan are calling for a dedicated bus service to and from Dublin.

Problems have been highlighted with the Bus Eireann route 32 service by commuters, which is said to be regularly late or overcrowded, leading to reports of missed medical appointments and stranded passengers.

Sinn Fein TD Matt Carthy has called on Minister Eamon Ryan to address the ‘deficiencies’ and remove the local authority limitations on pickups for private bus operators that service the area in lieu of a dedicated service.

In a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound he confirmed that he has also requested a Topical Issues Debate to be held in relation to these on-going problems.

Meanwhile, local Green Party Representative Tate Donnelly, has also called on his party leader to address the ‘poor standard’ of bus service here, stating it is a ‘significant economic barrier’.

He also highlighted that neither Clones nor Ballybay has a bus connection to Dublin at present and that addressing these transport issues in the region would be a green solution.
