The local Garda region has the highest rate of murder and related offences in 2018.
The CSO figures released today show the Northern Region had 17 such offences recorded, giving a rate of 3.1 per 100,000.
That’s one below the Dublin region which recorded 18 – a rate of 1.3 per cent.
Meanwhile, just 11 per cent of sexual offences reported to Gardaí in 2018 have resulted in someone being charged.
The figures show that sex crimes have the lowest detection rates.
Its the first time the data has been published since the practice was suspended two years ago, over CSO concerns about the quality of garda data.
