A coronavirus bailout should benefit ordinary workers and families and not the banks and financial institutions.
That’s the view of Sinn Féin TD Matt Carthy, who said his party accepts that a bailout is needed to deal with this emergency.
Sinn Féin is calling for an income support scheme package, which would see anyone who earns up to €32,500 a year receive their full wage for 20 weeks.
The proposed scheme would be paid through the employer and reimbursed by the government.
