Local Superintendent says new Garda model will be good for frontline policing

The Garda Superintendent in Monaghan says the new Garda operational model will be good for frontline policing.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris announced the changes last year but they’ve been met with opposition from some.

Under the plan the Cavan-Monaghan Division is to be merged with Louth, under the management of one Chief Superintendent.

It would also see the Northern Region merged with the Western Region with its headquarters in Galway.

The Garda Representative Association has called into question the size of the new division, stretching from Blacklion to Drogheda.
