Local TD fears Cross-Border Directive is being let down by delays in reimbursements

The Cross-Border Directive is being let down by delays in reimbursements.

Local Fianna Fail TD Niamh Smyth said she’s afraid the delays will cause people to turn their backs on the scheme.

The initiative allows people waiting on surgery in the south to avail of it in Northern Ireland and the recoup the costs from the HSE.

However the HSE says an increase in demand has led to waiting times of up to 12 weeks to process payments, with 30 days being the target time.

Speaking to Northern Sound News, Niamh Smyth people might have doubts about it.
