A local TD says high risk and first time patients must be prioritised for cervical check screening.

The Covid-19 pandemic put a stop to the smear test programme for 17 weeks, with testing only re-starting yesterday.

Deputy Niamh Smyth has expressed concern that we could see a drop in the number of women accessing cervical screening.

The HSE says it'll be October before it catches up on screening waiting lists for cervical cancer, and that delays will continue until February.

The Fianna Fáil TD told Shannonside Northern Sound that she is “convinced” first time patients will be prioritised and that screening will be done as soon as possible:
