Local TD says ‘nearest school rule’ discriminates against rural areas

Local TD Martin Kenny claims rural areas are being discriminated against by the current ‘nearest school rule’.

The Sinn Fein representative for West Cavan claims families in rural parishes are unable to access public transport and some children are being moved to different parishes to access busses to bring them to school.

Martin Kenny’s call for reform of the system was also supported by Sligo-Leitrim Fianna Fail representative Eamon Scanlan who claimed some families were being put under severe pressure due to the rule.
